So I thought I would bring runes back into the public domain.

What are runes after all? Well essentially they are a script where all necessary graphemes can be made with a few strokes of a knife.

If we take a square and divide it into 4 quadrants and label each of the corners from left to right and top to bottom we will have 9 points. We can draw a line between any two of these points and these lines will be the basis of our rune set.
There are 9C2, or 36 different lines that we can draw. We thus have a maximum of 36 one line runes. This is more than the inefficient Futhark set which includes some runes of 4, 5 and even 6 lines!

I have done a great deal more work on this script than is presented here. I have implemented the entire IPA alphabet for example, including the clicks, and I have numerous additional graphemes for various purposes, including highly technical ones for advanced mathematics and physics. For example my numerals go right up to 15 so that hexadecimal and dozenal notation can be used natively! I have also optimised the whole thing for all usages as far as I could.

I intend to put everything up here in due course along with my finalised font but that time is not yet. Be patient little grasshopper...

I still need to use the entire set properly and make whatever changes are needed to fix any problems. For example I can already see that my brackets are too small, ! and ? are too close to n and o and no doubt there will be other improvements I can make when I spend more time on it. One problem I have at present is the type foundry I was using want too much money for what is just a niche job for me. Stay tuned...
