Computers are such complex beasts and so pervasive in today's society that it is no surprise that they cause so much trouble and have so much written about them. Since I am a computer scientist, and since I have been deeply involved with computers since the inception of the IBM PC, it is also no surprise that I should want to stand on my soap box and pontificate on a whole raft of matters relating to this discipline.

Note that when I say computers, I include all the ancilliary matters that they are so closely bound up with these days, such as: networks, PSTN, Internet, software, mobile phones, HTML, Email etc. Cameras and visual imaging I will place in a different section.
